<p>L’ American University in Cairo conserve dans la Rare Books and Special Collections Library (RBSCL) un important ensemble de photographies acquis en 1956 de Sir <span>Keppel </span>Archibald<span> Cameron</span> Creswell (1879-1974), le grand spécialiste d’architecture islamique, en même temps que sa bibliothèque personnelle et ses papiers. Si la plupart des photographies ont été prises par Creswell lui-même, dès 1916, il se trouve aussi dans le fonds d’autres tirages, généralement antérieurs, collectés par le chercheur afin d’enrichir sa propre documentation. Ola Seif, responsable des collections photographiques de l’AUC, a ainsi pu identifier 72 tirages de Beniamino Facchinelli représentant Le Caire et ses environs. Beaucoup de ces tirages portent au dos, outre une identification du lieu en anglais, la mention Giuntini. Cette inscription a longtemps laissé supposer qu’il s’agissait de tirages d’après des clichés pris par Virgilio Giuntini, un des photographes actifs au Caire au cours des dernières décennies du XIX<sup>e </sup>s. et des deux premières décennies du XX<sup>e</sup> s. La présence de cette mention s’explique par le fait que peu de temps après la mort de Beniamino Facchinelli (1895), son fils Furio, lui-même photographe, a cessé son activité et cédé le fonds à Giuntini qui a dès alors diffusé les clichés.</p>
